I got an H&R Topper 158 in .30-30 a short while back and have had it to the range. I had to buy some (Haaack, spit...) factory ammo 'cause I didn't have any brass yet. To make a long story interminable, the iron sights really leave something to be desired, a Lyman folding rear and a low blade front mounted on a low ramp. I'd like to mount a scope, I have several that would be suitable, but I don't know when the rifle was made. Weaver makes two bases, the 60-A
for Pre '73 rifles and the 82 for Post '73's.
How to tell 'em apart? H&R inconsiderately neglected to put the date of mfg. on the rifle.

Dec 28, 2013 There was no Harrington, it's Harrington & Richardson, I can see the name on the gun in photograph. Now my serial number-year made tables for Harrington & Richardson shotguns don't go that high (977603) but that's the number on the gun. The highest number is for a Model 1905 is 462,001+ for 1940 so your gun must have been made after 1940. Harrington & Richardson Arms Co (with the o in Co underlined) Worcester.Mass.U.S.A. I've been using the parts list from Numrich arms to identify and replace the missing parts. I've gotten a replacement trigger spring and a replacement hand with spring. However, the Numrich arms page shows a small coil spring to move what they call the sear.
